When the RPI football team made its surprising run to the NCAA Division III semifinals in 2003, it caught the attention of a speedy but undersized wide receiver from Mesa, Ariz.
Brendan McGowan was looking to play for one of the country's top Division III programs. And at least for that season, RPI fit the description.
"If they would have had a lousy season, I'm not sure I would have found out about (RPI)," McGowan said. "It's kind of a funny coincidence, but I'm extremely happy I made the decision I did."
