Fed: Coalition rebels in for fight with gvt over migration laws

The federal government appears to have a fight on its hands to get its migration changes
through parliament.

Immigration Minister AMANDA VANSTONE has indicated the government's unwilling to consider
any further changes to the legislation .. which would see all people arriving by boat
processed in offshore detention centres.

That's angered Liberal moderates .. who are worried the laws could see children back
in immigration detention.

Victorian Liberal MP RUSSELL BROADBENT says he and nine colleagues who oppose the changes
.. won't be giving ground.

The bill's listed for debate in the House of Representatives this afternoon.

Senator JUDITH TROETH says she's still unhappy with the bill .. and if she crosses
the floor to side with the opposition and minor parties in the Senate .. it could be defeated.
